Reverse engineering technology proposal for blow molds
Task
We were asked to produce an updated blow molding die for an automotive parts manufacturer.
This mold was made several decades ago, and the drawings had been lost. In addition, when making a new mold, there was a request to change the blowing specifications of the mold.
Our proposal
Since neither the mold drawings nor the 2D and 3D product diagrams of the relevant item were available, we performed a 3D scan of the mold’s shape and created a 3D model. This allowed us to restore and manufacture a mold capable of forming products with the same shape.
In addition, in response to a request to change the mold blowing specifications, we were able to manufacture the product using the following process.
①3D scan of the actual mold
② 3D modeling of product shape
③ Reflecting your requests in the mold design
④ Manufacturing an updated mold by cutting aluminum material
Molds without drawings have become molds with drawing data, and customers are now able to consider designs based on the data, such as how to handle mold maintenance and consider tuning, and we have received positive feedback from our customers.
