Reverse engineering technology proposals for processing machines

Task

The machining accuracy of a multi-purpose lathe, which had been used for many years as a dedicated machine for machining bottle mouth shapes, had deteriorated, so a retrofit was necessary.

In addition, some parts were deformed or unavailable for purchase, so we had to make new ones.

Our proposal

We proposed replacing the specialized machine used to process bottle mouth shapes with a general-purpose machine and introducing the latest technology.

First, the processing machine was disassembled part by part, and drawings of all parts and piping routes were confirmed. Deformed or difficult-to-obtain parts were newly manufactured, and the internal electrical control parts were renewed with the latest models. In addition, the control device was changed from Fanuc to Mitsubishi. Hydraulic drive parts were electrified as much as possible, and the conveyor and robot were changed from dedicated machines to general-purpose articulated robots. This makes it easier to replace parts and change the structure, and also contributes to cost reduction. Furthermore, the LM guide was changed to a modern high-rigidity guide, significantly improving processing accuracy.

During assembly, we checked against the blueprints to ensure the precision of each part and accurately reproduced the piping paths. In addition, when replacing the transfer robot, we took into consideration the linkage with peripheral equipment and developed an optimal operation program.
Through these processes, the processing machine has been reborn as a high-precision processing machine equipped with the latest NC control device and general-purpose robot.

Through this retrofit, the customer was able to improve processing accuracy, improve maintainability, and reduce costs.
